Ravishing Ripple Blanket Bonanza

TAN TAN TARAAAH, TAN TAN TARAAAH: BOOM ZING BOOM ZING: TAN TAN TARAAH

IT IS FINALLY FINISHED!!! I PRESENT TO YOU: THE COLOUR-JOY RIPPLE BLANKET!!!

It was started in March and was finished just before 3pm on 19.9.2009 such a nice date I think.
I had such fun playing with all the various colour combinations and only some were repeated and only occasionally....FFZZZZZZZZ I'm fizzing with excitement and yet and yet: there's a sense of loss too, what shall I do next as a BIG project?!! I'll miss the glorious soft warm company of my deliriously stripey colourful ripple. It's become a dear friend and constant evening companion...

Then I did try to capture the ENTIRE length, but had to fold it over in half widthwise to do so:

107 STRIPES! It weighs 1715 grammes and is 125cm wide and 215cm long. There are 98 wide stripes and 9 narrow ones. Pure wool called MERINO SPORT DK was used from Yeoman Yarns and a 4mm hook.

Can you count the colours?

Oh no that's not a fair question as the colours change the way they look to us depending on which colour they are next to so it looks more than it actually is!

It fits perfectly on a single bed and has also found a resting place on our favourite daily

''rest and muse'' spot: the swing seat!!!!

There's 15 colours. And at £2 per 50 g ball should have cost a bit less than £70?!!!

Not bad eh?!!!

Now here's to thinking what the next one will be: Miss E wants me to ripple one in blues/greens and purple and Miss Y desires a pinks and reds with white one.....I fancy a change of stitch: will it be granny squares, hexagons or logcabin squares?

I'm off to snuggle under it and ponder and muse about that one, I'll be ordering the yarn on Monday!

Ripple blanket : progress

Tan tan taraaaaaa! No it's not finished yet but I'm oh soooo happy with it and it's longer than I am tall now so I can wrap myself in it and be a stripey mummy.....Truly mummified....
Just thought I'd share with you all the colour permutations i have been playing with as it's a kind-of-a-sampler ripple stitch blanket- with just 19 rows left to go.
Above is the full view as is at over 1.55cm long.
Then follows 3 sections that make up the above and then I give close ups of some of my favourite colur groups: let's go see!!!

This was the end a few days ago but I've gone all oranges and reds since that purple now...

I really liked this turquoise between these 2 blues for a change. The dark blue is next to a pale aqua but it looks bleached white in the photo.

Here's the blues more conventionally in a tonal variation.

There's almost always a different colour next to the purple every time.

More coming soon! It's meant to be 2m long and I may add a little finishing edge to the sides....

It's been enormous fun to do and although no longer an easily portable project, still such glorious warm cuddley fun to do while watching films or tv on the sofa: stitching away at one end while wrapped in the rest!!!

Our FILM FEST this week ( due to all that rain!) has included- and I have enjoyed them all!!!

Hence together with some handsewing chores and sewing in of ends there's been 4 rows added since the purple....And a lot of child and dog and puppy cuddling too.....

Ripple stitch rainbow blanket or afghan : progress!!!

This was taken on Sunday 10 May 2009 and I have progresses a bit further in that there are 5 more double rows, ie 5 colours added to the above picture. It's still totally absorbing and it's very relaxing to add a few rows at a time.
Today I had a half hour lunchbreak with no access to anywhere much so I very happily added 2 rows( 1 colour) to the blanket and the colours simply filled me with joy and peace and a contented happiness.

I am still using a 4mm hook and DK pure wool from Yeoman Yarns: available from www.yeomanyarns.co.uk

You have to phone up and ask for the handknitting shade card which they print for you and send in the post, then you can order by phone: It's not online yet.

I have been playing with the colours, not repeating any particular sequence as yet and there are different areas which are my favourites on any given day, my daughters too have their ''most loved'' bits but they also like the choice and the variety.

In that respect it's kind of like a sampler for me. A colourplay crochet sampler.

SEE? I love the sequence from pale blue to the palest turquoise above: from right to left after the red? Not too sure about the 2 orange tones right by the dark navy blue....

But the orange does spark the blue quite well?

I also like the hippy chick bit with all the 70's colours: pink,lime,orange and purple....

And I like the pinks/oranges and reds together.

By last weekend I was on a ''preppy colours'' roll: or classics: you know the sky blue, ''pine'' ( or racing car green as it used to be called) green, royal blue, navy and burgundy.....with a dash of pillarbox red.

It now weighs 666 grammes for 82 rows or 41 stripes and I timed myself today- each single row takes me about 12 minutes so I can do a double row for a single colour in about 24-30 minutes but I tend to do it in very short bursts so it's not really like that most of the time.

It's 112cm wide and the 82 rows are measuring: 82cm.

You're going to have to take my word for it but it's lovely and soft and very very warm and just great to snuggle under - while still crocheting!!!- late at night when the temperature drops and the heating is NOT on to save the planet etc etc etc.....Woolley wonderfulness.

Widthwise it fits nicely from my toes to my chin when sitting down on the comfy sofa.....still crocheting.....
